Zaterdag 30 mei 2020 - Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd-laureate Eliane Rodrigues staat met haar uitvoering van het vierde pianoconcerto van Beethoven op 1 in De Week van de Koningin Top 30 van Klara. Dat maakte Klara-presentatrice Lut Van der Eycken zonet bekend. Eliane Rodrigues bracht het uitdagende werk van Beethoven tijdens de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd voor piano in 1983. Ze werd daarmee vijfde laureate en oogstte internationaal veel lof. De Klara-luisteraars kronen haar met haar uitvoering tot de nummer 1 in de Top 30.
Eliane Rodrigues werd geboren in Rio de Janeiro. Haar muzikaal talent werd al vroeg ontdekt en geleid door Arnaldo Estrella (zelf student van Alfred Cortot en vriend van Villa Lobos).
Ze was een echte 'child prodigy': op 3-jarige leeftijd begon ze met componeren nog voor ze noten kon lezen en schrijven. Tegen de tijd dat ze 7 was, waren er twee pianomethodes verschenen met haar composities. Verder speelde ze haar eerste recital op 5-jarige leeftijd en het eerste TV-optreden volgde een jaar later waar ze het pianoconcerto in D van Haydn bracht met Orquestra Sinfonica Nacional. Nog een jaar later speelde ze het Mozartconcerto KV488 met datzelfde orkest. Vanaf dat moment behaalde ze prijzen bij talrijke wedstrijden - zowel regionaal als nationaal - om dan als 18-jarige in de USA de “special prize” op het Van Cliburn concours te krijgen.
Nadien vertrok zij naar België om de klas van Jacques Detiège te vervoegen (zelf een student geweest van Leon Fleischer en leraar van andere laureaten van de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd, o.a. Robert Groslot en Sylvia Traey). Ook behaalde ze verschillende eerste prijzen bij nationale wedstrijden als Wedstrijd Emmanuel Durlet, Cantabile, Tenuto,... om dan in '83 als vijfde te eindigen in de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd.
Sindsdien heeft ze niet stilgezeten: als laureate trad Rodrigues al zeer snel op in het Concertgebouw Amsterdam, het Berliner Schauspielhaus, Parijs, Hamburg en het Leipzigs Gewandhaus. Een greep uit haar concertsteden: Antwerpen, Brussel, Den Haag, Moskou, New York, Rio de Janeiro, St. Petersburg, Volgograd en Zürich. In De Doelen in Rotterdam wordt zij al 20 jaar lang uitgenodigd om op tweede kerstdag een Chopin-recital te brengen.
1998 was een belangrijk jaar voor Rodrigues: ze werd de spilfiguur van een jaarlijks festival in Zwitserland, Musica Romantica, waar zij niet enkel soleert, maar ook dirigeert en componeert.
Verder is zij al ruim 20 jaar docent aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium te Antwerpen.
Daarnaast beschikt ze over meer dan 25 cd's van zowel liveconcerten als studio-opnames. In 2002 zette ze de 5 concerti van Sergei Prokofiev op cd.

Meest recent zijn de opnames van alle 8 pianoconcerti van Beethoven in St. Petersburg.

Eliane Rodrigues was born in Rio de Janeiro. Her musical talent was discovered early on and was fostered by Arnaldo Estrella (himself a student of Alfred Cortot's and friends with Villa Lobos).

She was a true child prodigy: at the age of three, she started composing - before she could even read or write notes. By the time she was seven, two piano methods had appeared in her compositions. In addition to this, she played her first recital at the age of five, and made her first TV appearance a year later, in which she played Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major with the Orquestra Sinfonica Nacional. Just a year later, she played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major (K. 488), once again with the National Symphony Orchestra. From that moment on, she won prizes at numerous regional and national competitions, going on to win the special prize at the Van Cliburn Competition in the USA when she was just 18.

After this, she moved to Belgium to attend classes by Jacques Detiège (who was a student of Leon Fleischer's before going on to teach other winners of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, including Robert Groslot and Sylvia Traey). She also took first place at many national competitions, such as the Emmanuel Durlet Competition, the Cantabile, the Tenuto, etc., going on to take fifth place at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 1983.

She hasn't been resting on her laurels all this time, though: the award-winning Rodrigues was soon playing venues like the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Berliner Schauspielhaus, Paris, Hamburg and the Leipzigs Gewandhaus. Just to give you an idea of a few of the places she's played... Antwerp, Brussels, The Hague, Moscow, New York, Rio de Janeiro, St. Petersburg, Volgograd and Zurich. For over 20 years, she has been invited to De Doelen in Rotterdam to perform a Chopin recital on Boxing Day.

1998 was a turning point for Rodrigues: she became the key figure in the annual Swiss Música Romântica festival, at which she not only perform solo, but conduct at, and compose for as well.

In addition to this, she has been a lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp for over 20 years.
Plus, she's produced over 25 CDs of both live concerts and studio albums. In 2002, she recorded five Sergey Prokofiev concertos on CD.
